Dalbeattie Cairn Terriers
Dalbeattie Cairn Terriers
My first Cairn was a wheaten male that came from a puppy mill. I was a teenager when I was looking for my dog and did not know how to go about getting a puppy. When I finally found a cairn terrier, I was so happy I did not question where he came from. It was only after I had had him a few weeks that we started to wonder about his history.
Through Charlie I met local breeders of Cairn terriers and one in particular (Chikki Mair, now of Ontario), took me under her wing. From her I learned what a cairn should really look like, how to groom them and how to show them.
Charlie also introduced me to the performance sports. First we tried obedience where we earned my first obedience title and then scent hurdling. Unfortunately a hip injury stopped his participation in the sports as jumping was required and he could no longer do that.
While Charlie was young, I went to NAIT and became an Animal Health Technologist. After a few years of working for vets, I decided to change careers. I attended NAIT again and became a Medical Laboratory Technologist, now retired.
I am a life member of the Cairn Terrier Club of Canada, a life member of the Canadian Kennel Club, and a regular member of the All Terrier Club of Alberta, the Performance and Earthdog Association of Alberta, and a founding member of The Edmonton Performance and Earthdog Club.
